50k Update - Finished NaNoWriMo

I did it. I finished NaNoWriMo last night (at 6am lol) and it only cost my my soul and sanity.

Read )

Well, I did it. It was hard, and I had to stay up until 6am (I am so tired) but I did it. I got all the NaNoWriMo badges except for the Achieve Daily Par Every Day badge. So not as good as last year, but I got everything else and still finished the damn thing, so I'm proud of myself for that.

I also managed to do half a year's worth of weekly challenges from Ad Astra since there was an Amnesty on the first 26 prompts this month. (Shh, I posted like 3 of them without editing).

Fic still isn't done, but I'm going to abandon it for the time being because I have a zine deadline at the end of the month and a few other things to do.

You know how I broke my NaNoWriMo Par streak the other day and said "gee I sure hope I don't slack off because of this?" Well. I slacked off. So now I need to write about 2k per day for that project if I want to hit 50k by the end of the month... but I'm also kinda in a bit of a writer's block which is not a great time...

I've also been slacking off on getting my weekly challenge prompts done. As of right now, I have 14 prompts that I haven't even started, and four that need to be edited. So if I count drafting as one project and editing another, that's like... 32 things to do before the end of the month. Which means four drafts/edits per day. I'm going to try and front load with drafts so I save the easier work for the end of the month.

Ughhh it's so much why did I procrastinate...

Oof

Well, I broke my streak and didn't hit par yesterday for NaNoWriMo. I left it too late and was too tired and only managed about 1000 words... RIP that Par badge. Now the real challenge is not letting myself slack off because I already wrecked my "perfect" NaNo. Which is a bigger issue than just losing the badge.

Anyways, this should be a lesson to me to stop waiting till 2 or 3am to start my day's writing... Maybe I'll actually learn this lesson for once!

The worst part of NaNoWriMo...
... is when this stupid owl comes out to mock me:
From the NaNoWriMo stats page, a box with the header, 'When I Write.' There is a graphic of a purple owl sitting on a branch and looking at a viewer, in front of a full moon. Text below the owl says, 'hoot hoot, you're a night owl! You write the most between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM!'

Look at him... so smug. The face of an owl who needs to mind his own buisiness. Also, it was one time! ONE TIME!

NaNoWriMo Day 1 Update!

Alright, I know it's 3am, but my day doesn't end until I go to sleep, so it's still November 1st. So with all my writing for the day done, I want to tell you how I did.

So in two sittings (2 hours 34 minutes total) I wrote 1954 words towards my NaNo project. It's not much and it took forever but it's par and that's what counts! I wrote the whole first chapter of my fic, and ending a day right at the end of a chapter is pretty satisfying.

I also did some bonus writing since the Ad Astra Weekly Writing Challenge is having an amnesty. Today though I did the challenge that is actually for this week... and finished it and posted it for once! I spent 56 minutes writing and editing it and wrote 771 words (including words added in editing). It's my first little fic posted with some of my OCs and the first Weekly Writing Challenge I actually managed to post! This doesn't count towards my NaNoWriMo counts but that's okay!

NaNoWriMo - 1954/50000 words

Weekly Writing Challenge - 1/26 prompts, 771 words

November 1 - 2725 words, 211 minutes

NaNoWriMo 2023

It's that time of year... Time to write a novel length fic in 30 days. This will be my second time doing NaNoWriMo, and hopefully I will be just as successful as I was last year (I passed last year's with flying colours).

What am I writing?
Weirdly enough, it's the sequel to last year's NaNo project (which still hasn't been edited or posted, whoops). It's called Sunsets Red With Dust and Blood and it's an AOS Tarsus IV fic that I have not outlined in the slightest. My notes just say "it's trauma time" which isn't particularly helpful.

Goals
Obviously, my primary goal is to write 50k in November. However, I also want to match last year's success by writing at least 1667 words every day, and collecting all the badges again. And a stretch goal... actually finish the first draft by November 30th so I'm not slogging away at the last bits into the new year.

I'll be posting progress reports here, but if you want to join me on the NaNoWriMo site, you can add me here.

To everyone else doing NaNoWriMo, good luck and I believe in you! For everyone else... grab some popcorn and enjoy the show as the writers in your life slowly grow more and more disconnected with reality with each passing day. See you in November!
