Reading Challenges 2023
1 Jan 2023 20:43Reading Challenges 2023
It's that time of year, the time of picking out wholly unsustainable challenges! This year I am doing five challenges (outside my book count and page goal). Three of them come from The StoryGraph and two of them are personal challenges I've set out to get through some of my TBR.
Goals
This year my goal is to read at least 120 books, and at least 50000 pages.
Challenges
The StoryGraph's Onboarding Reading Challenge 2023
A low-pressure challenge of 6 prompts designed to encourage exploration of the app and it's features.
1. Read a book with more pages than the longest book you read in 2022
2. Read a book you discovered via the Community page
3. Read a book from your StoryGraph Recommendations
4. Read one of the first 10 books you added to your To-Read Pile
5. Read a book in your least read format
6. Read a book published in the last three years that fits your reader profile
The StoryGraph's Genre Challenge 2023
A ten prompt challenge designed to help explore genres you may otherwise not read.
1. A contemporary or literary fiction novel with disability rep
2. A nonfiction book about start-ups
3. A sapphic romance novel
4. A biography about someone you don't know much about
5. A children's book you never read as a kid

9. A horror or mystery novel written by a woman or nonbinary author
10. A travel memoir
The StoryGraph Reads the World 2023

8. South Africa

A personal challenge to finish all the series that I started in 2021 and 2022. There is a lot. I have to finish 18 series (a total of 51 books)

Owned/Borrowed Books
This is a challenge to get through all the books I own or have borrowed. As an avid library user I find it hard to get around to reading books that I own because there's no deadlines. And I think I've been hoarding books borrowed from my dad for like three years. To make this remotely possible, I'm only counting books acquired in in 2022 or earlier so I'm not constantly adding to this challenge every time I walk into the used bookstore. This challenge has a total of 50 books for me to read.
1. Owned Books (47 books unread)
2. Borrowed Books (3 books borrowed)
So yeah, those are my challenges. My two personal challenges have me reading over 100 particular books, but the StoryGraph prompts give me a bit of leeway to pick and choose. I'll make another post at the end of the year to tell you what I read and how I did! Wish me luck!
